Hotel di Bogor - IT took her four attempts to become Miss Virginia, but only six months later Virginia Commonwealth University student Caressa Cameron has been crowned Miss America.
Making the top five in 2010 - along with Miss California, Kristy Cavinder, Miss Tennessee, Stefanie Wittler, Miss Louisiana, Katherine Putnam and Miss Kentucky, Mallory Ervin, Cameron took out the top prize of US$50,000, plus the all-important crown at the annual event in Las Vegas late Saturday local time.
Bogor - The pageant started out with 53 contestants but Cameron, from Fredericksburg, Virgina beat her opponents after a series of competitions in swimsuit, evening gown, talent and interview categories.
Miss California was the first runner up, while Miss Louisiana took out third spot.
The competition featured representatives from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Cameron, who said she wants to be a TV anchor, was crowded by Miss America 2009 Katie Stam during the 89-year-old pageant, which was televised live on cable network TLC.
Back in June when she won her Miss Virginia title on her fourth attempt, the 22-year-old communications major told the Richmond Times Dispatch that she had never thought about giving up on the title she had wanted since she was a little girl.
She said during her year as Miss Virgina, her platform would be one of AIDS education.
"I lost an uncle to AIDS, and my family also helped care for a foster child with juvenile AIDS," she said.
"I really think our school systems do a wonderful job educating students about AIDS," she said.
"But young people have developed an apathetic attitude toward this disease and feel this can't affect them."
